Back of the Book:
“Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but…she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.
That is until Rhys Penhallow…returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.
Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.”
My Thoughts:
The book was cute and perfectly autumnal! Reading it in middle of August definitely made me excited for the Fall season and all things pumpkin spice.
But she did love it. Especially now with the first hint of fall in the air, the leaves orange, the sky purple. Penhaven was always at its best in the autumn.
The Ex hex, Chapter 3
I, unfortunately, had to give it 3 stars because the plot was not as engaging as it could’ve been. There was just too much emphasis and effort put into the romance instead of the story itself.
I found it a bit difficult to get fully connected to and emotionally invested in the romance plot arc. Note: I may also be biased, since I don’t usually read novels where romance is the primary genre. I am looking to change that, though!
There are hints and bits of humor in the book that soften the story, making it even more enjoyable. I don’t think the book is worth rereading in the future, but I don’t regret the experience. It was cute and perfectly cozy.
Who this book is for:
If you are excited to kick off the Autumn season (as soon as possible!!) with a cozy romance, this book is for you!
If you like a hint of adventure and shenanigans, but overall an easy read, this book is for you!
If you are over the age of 18, as there are a few steamy scenes, this book is for you!
And last but not least: if you love the enemies-to-lovers trope, but don’t want too much angst, this book is perfect for you!
Let me know what you thought of this novel if you’ve read it, and as always…
Happy Reading!
